There are a number of prisons throughout the world that are known for their harsh conditions and human rights abuses. Some of the worst prisons in the world include:

1. Kwan-li-so No. 22:


This prison, located in North Korea, is one of the world’s deadliest. Prisoners here are subjected to horrific conditions that include forced labor, torture, and execution.



2. ADX Florence:

This Supermax prison in the United States is designed to house the most dangerous and violent criminals. Inmates are kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day with minimal human contact.

 


3. Tadmor Prison:

This Syrian prison has a long history of human rights abuses, including torture and extrajudicial killing. A 1980 massacre saw over a thousand political prisoners killed by the Syrian army.

 


4. San Juan de Lurigancho Prison:

This Peruvian prison is one of the most overcrowded in the world, with a high incidence of violence and disease. Inmates here often lack basic necessities such as food, water, and sanitation.

 


5. Carandiru Prison:

This Brazilian prison was notorious for its violence and inhumane conditions before it was closed in 2002. A 1992 massacre saw over a hundred inmates killed by the police.

 


These are just a few examples of some of the most notorious and dangerous prisons in the world, highlighting the need for prison reform and better protection of human rights.
