Liquefied natural gas exports have transformed the way U.S. natural gas prices behave. A decade ago, domestic supply and local weather were the dominant forces. Today, export terminals link U.S. gas markets more closely to overseas demand, especially in Europe and Asia. When international buyers compete for LNG cargoes, domestic gas balances can tighten, even if U.S. production remains strong.

This export channel adds a new layer of complexity.
